The Sheath Cleaning Song

Author Unknown

Sing it to the tune of "Hello Mother, Hello Father" from camp song

I'll admit it's

kinda creepy

that I had to stick my arm up in your pee-pee.

It was sticky.

It was gunky.

It felt icky.

It smelled funky.

It was cruddy,

it was crusty--

when you stuck it out, it creaked like ...

In Mid-September my 10 year old Quarter Horse gelding broke out in hives. We figured it was just the bugs out after a rain storm we just had. Unfortunately they did not go away after a few days.

I had a Friday off to prepare for the Valley Reiners so I set up an appointment with the vet. She came out, examined Zippy. Did a CBC on him. Bloodwork was all normal with no infections. He was diagnosed "lumpy Zippy syndrome" (not really, i made that one up) She ...

Found a good site for ACV:

apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com

just check the Horse Care section. When I googled for more information it was amazing the results people had for SO many health issues inside and outside the horse's body. Definately worth checking out.

Note--It's the Pure ACV that's the most beneficial.

If anyone finds a good deal on the stuff...let me know!

Happy Trails in what's left of the riding season for 2009!!!!!!!!!!!! :7_10_4[1].gif:

She would take big mouth fulls and munch them down...carefully. Still sort of cringing at the thoughts of it but she really seemed intent on just the thistles. Is there something specfic that she is trying to get from them? I have noticed one of our ponies occassional eat thistles but this girl really had quite a feast.

I was lunging my mare this morning when a friend standing by the fence heard her teeth or jaws banging (hard to explain) together when trotting..this must be hurtful or terribly anoying ...I've never noticed as I thought the noise was from her hoof booties..her teeth were filed 4 months ago because she couldn't chew her hay properly and vet said she had ulcers from her teeth being neglected for years (we just purchased her in Dec) now wondering what this could be ?

Hi,

I have a 20 plus 15.2 hh quarter horse gelding who needs alot of grain to maintain him. I have no pasture btw. I feed lots of hay. My question: I have been feeding him Purina's Hi Fat Hi Fiber, Equilizer, but it wasn't enough, so added crimped oats, flax, (and beet pulp through the winter).

I e-mailed Pam Mackenzie at Purina for another option that might work better for my horse. She suggested the following:

I’ve got a great recipe for any equine that may not be drinking as much as you’d like them to for any reason. Try this:

Crush up, or dissolve white peppermints in some water, add some table salt and molasses. Add to a bucket of water and throw a handful of crimped oats on the top. Stir it up.

Voila! The oats really gets them interested and keeps them interested and drinking more, just to get the ones on the bottom. I just gave this to my mare and Sailor Girl's gelding and it ...

I treated my horses feet with White Lightning today and found a really good trick. The WL and vinegar solution is applied to a cotton ball that is spread out on the frog of the foot, then you have to place the foot in a plastic bag. Well most plastic is not strong enough to hold to the horse walking around or pawing the ground. Put several pieces of Duct Tap over the bottom of the plastic bag. It worked really well. My boys walked around while the White Lightning was working its magic and they ...

Looking for some advice on feeding. The critters are losing their winter coats and I think they may be a wee bit thin. Their hind quarters look good but there isn't alot of meat over their ribs.
Well...... I think I have finally got a handle on our mud fever.

I have soaked both feet on buckets of epsom salts and hot water and got the scabs off.

Then I blew her legs dry with my hair dryer and applied melaleuca gel to the red sore spots.

I will wash her legs again tonight and re-apply the melaleuca gel.

Dottie had it quite bad with very swollen pasterns and fetlocks.

This is the worst I have had to deal with ever. How is everyone else handling this dilema?

I've been helping out a friend (a first time horse owner) with her standardbred gelding. We wormed him Friday with Eqvalan Gold and she called me tonight to say that he is passing a couple worms. From what she described over the phone they sound like large strongyles ( 1/2 inch brownish colored worms - resembling earthworms - just not as thick). So far he's only passed 2 worms (that she found) and knowing ...

So, I'd like to be about to give my horses shots myself this year... like the usual required to show shots... Do NB vets let you do this by yourself? I would just like avoid the larger bill haha.. I know with cattle you can got to the vet office and get the shots to be administered yourself, so I was wondering if horse is the same way?
