Yesterday I took my five year old gelding out for what should have been a really nice trail ride. We trail ride quite a bit, almost always alone because I don’t have any horse friends nearby to ride with. Anyway Frisko is usually pretty laid back, to the point of being downright lazy. He will occasionally spook at things but just minor startles, then he settles right down again.

			<description>This is the only ATV group who encourage horses on the trail and are currently building garbage bins with mounting blocks and distributing them along the trail. How cool is that!  Of course on the clean up day it poured

			<description>I've heard that one should undo a standing martingale while crossing a river in case the horse falls and finds himself/herself in the dangerous situation of having to get up in a river!  Their head and neck cannot extend out fully with a standing martingale attached.  So, if the river's flowing and high, take the time to undo that standing martingale.



I have not witnessed this but just some advice for any of us who have to use those awful standing martingales while hacking.

and I love bells on bikes these 3 bikes came up behind us we never heard them at all,  and the guy rang the bell for a warning it was great did not startle the horses (love the mariner atv club for making the rules that all atv stop and shut engines off  works great too 

but when we came across those 3 same bike that rode past lou with no issue
