PostSubject: Horse twins on PEI   Fri Aug 07, 2009 4:27 pm

I was just checking out the websites of boarding facilities on PEI, and someone's mare just had twins! They say that they are doing fine.

How rare are horse twins? Do they usually survive?

I wish them all the best!

I don't know if I can post the link?? There is a picture of the mommy and the two little babies!

Horse twins are very rare, I think it is 1 birth out of every 10,000 will be a twin birth. Not common at all! Survival rate really depends on the condition of mom and babies. There are quite a few twins around that have survived. The first few days are certainly the most crucial. I think you should totally post the picture! Just give credit where it is due ;)

It will be interesting to see the twins. They are not very comman and survival rate is low at best. I think the draft breeds have a higher survival rate of twins than lighter breeds do.

Ok here is the link. If it is not suppose to be here, someone can get rid of it. The two babies look good.
