As I sit here killing time before work I pose a question to you folks. What would YOU want to see in the Maritimes as far as a Paint Horse stud goes?

Which discipline would your prefer his bloodlines to include? Would you be looking for a horse that is more English or Western? An athletic jumper, or a speedy barrel racer, or a quite trail horse, maybe a horse with some cow-sense, or a spinning reiner?

Are there particular bloodlines you’d love to see in the area?

What would you look for in temperament?

What would you look for in conformation?

What height of horse would you be interested in?

Would you want something with a proven pedigree?

Would you pick a horse who has proven himself in the show pen over one who hasn’t?

What would you be willing to pay for a stud fee?

With paint horses comes an added color bonus, would you prefer Tobiano or Overo? Or does it really matter?

I'd look for something that may excel in a specific area but also be versatile that he could be asked to do anything and do it well.

Are there particular bloodlines you’d love to see in the area? I like the Coosa lines (love Western Impulse and also Laddie ;)

What would you look for in temperament? Quiet natured well mannered respectful stallion

What would you look for in conformation? Good shoulder and hip, well built but with an athletic conformation, not too halterish, shorter backed, nice neck/throatlach, love the big QH cheeks :) good feet, well balanced.

What height of horse would you be interested in? 15-16hh

Would you want something with a proven pedigree? Lines that show potential, not necessarily proven parents if there's a reason why they havent been shown/or worked, Maritimes is rather hard to expect horses to have points or ROM's etc..

Would you pick a horse who has proven himself in the show pen over one who hasn’t? I'd rather make a horse than buy ready made, mostly economics, to buy a finished horse like I'd want would be way too pricey

What would you be willing to pay for a stud fee? up to $700 for the right stallion, less is always better for my pocket book, gonna miss not having the MPHC stallion sale next year :(

With paint horses comes an added color bonus, would you prefer Tobiano or Overo? Or does it really matter? I"m a Tobiano person, there are some overo's I like but Tobiano with bonus like Dun is perfect.... Guess I just described Kid :) The color I want, lines I wanted, size, temperament, conformation.... what more could you ask for :) :)

Well funny you should ask this... I WILL at some point have my own paint stallion... When the right time comes of course and I have my own barn set up etc etc.

As for what I would/am looking for, it would have to be Overo Color Pattern for sure, Black/Bay/Buckskin for color and well I'm kinda liking the palomino a bit as well.

I want something with awesome blood lines (although that doesn't always make a horse a winner). But I do like the good bloodlines, something that has proven themselves. Now if I were to buy a stallion I would buy something probably around a year old. I don't want them too old as I am VERY strict with how I would have my stallion's behavior.

I want a stallion that produces foals with awesome temperaments, trainablility, conformation (BIGGY WITH ME), good foot, color..

As for height 15.2+, I like something that has some body that can both halter and ride, and mostly western pleasure bred but that could be versitile.

Oh so much I can't even think about, I can't wait til I find that PERFECT stallion out there. I want something REALLY different..

Oh and of course it would have to be N/N and LWG NEGative.. Those are two BIG things with me.

Oh and the stud fee, I think $500 for the maritimes is lots, I mean depending on how bad you really wanted to breed outside mares

reining... but versitile enough to do western and english pleasure

Are there particular bloodlines you’d love to see in the area? i would have to do more home work but trash is a long time favorite and i haven't heard of that line up here (but that doesn't mean there aren't any)... gunner... there are a few young horses from his line in the maritimes now though

What would you look for in temperament? calm, willing... kid proof.... likes people AND horses

What would you look for in conformation? good to excellent, short back, nice head, good foot

What height of horse would you be interested in? 14.2-15.2

Would you want something with a proven pedigree? yes... if an older horse then proven get would out weight parentage

Would you pick a horse who has proven himself in the show pen over one who hasn’t? yup... cause that's where we want to go ;)

What would you be willing to pay for a stud fee? up to 800

With paint horses comes an added color bonus, would you prefer Tobiano or Overo? Or does it really matter? love overo but it is riskier as there is no homogeneous gene and they usually carry lw...

Would have to be tested for herda, hypp with all negative results and status of lw

Are you shopping!?!?!?

Westen, Performance (cutting/reining/racing) bred - I find a good performance horse can do just about anything in the right hands.

Are there particular bloodlines you’d love to see in the area?
I'm not particularly fond of halter lines and now that there are performance halter classes I find those far more appealing because then you definitely have a horse that halters (and can be successful in their class as their criteria applies accordingly to the build of performance horses) and they're definitely a rider as well...

What would you look for in temperament?
Temperament is number 1 in my book - an easy trainer that loves to work and passes that same wonderful disposition on to his offspring

What would you look for in conformation?
Good bones, good shoulder, big hip to slide

What height of horse would you be interested in?
Under 15'1 hands...can't be tooo far to the ground

Would you want something with a proven pedigree?
Proven pedigree or at a minimum proven parents/siblings

Would you pick a horse who has proven himself in the show pen over one who hasn’t?
More apt to pick one that has proven himself in the show pen BUT one who has produced viable offspring that have proven themselves also perks my interest

What would you be willing to pay for a stud fee?
Up to $1500 for a phenomenal horse that has all his ducks in a row

With paint horses comes an added color bonus, would you prefer Tobiano or Overo? Or does it really matter?
Color is pretty unimportant to me. Temperament and comformation come long before that... of course if there were two horses and they both were the WHOLE package I'd likely go for the colored one but I'd never let "pretty" govern my decisions

This is strictly a personal opionion.... BUT I find some Paint breeders have omitted the conformation/temperament/pedigree bit as they try to find "pretty". I think it is important to keep in mind what makes horses successful and easy on the eyes is definitely a factor but there are so many other important key factors that should be examened as well.
