PostSubject: What do you do to your trailer?   Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:59 pm

Now that the winter is HERE, what do you do to your trailer for the winter? Do you just park it off to the side and wait till the spring? OR is there something you like to do to the horse trailer to weather the winter better?

Thanks

mine is parked in the drive way. mine needs work so I don't worry enough to do anything else. I guess if you wanted it not to rust out if it's steel you could get it under coated.

We usually pressure wash cow manure... LOL but I guess that doesn't apply in your case. Much like Lightning ours is on the go year round. I think I'd put it inside if I had the opportunity though.

Ours is parked outside. Hubby (the guru of all vehicles) says that you cause more damage by covering it up with a tarp or something. If I was going to use it in the winter I'd definitely get it undercoated but ours is pretty much parked.

Ours is just parked also. And hubby says the same thing as Tammy's husband, don't cover it. If you cover it, the wind will make the tarp or cover move which will rub and scratch it. Of course keeping it indoors would be best.

Before we parked it for the winter Kevin took all the mats out, washed and scrubbed the floors and walls, let it dry then put the mats back in. Then we bought another horse and he had to do it again .. then we bought ANOTHER horse and he had to do it AGAIN! lol!

And ours has living quarters so he also winterized all the plumbing, etc.

We don't want to use it in the winter but we're taking a young horse to an indoor for a month or two so I guess we'll have to. We'll probably wait until the roads are dry so there won't be a lot of salt get on the trailer.

Mine's pretty much same as Ride em, we undercoated it earlier this fall, then last thing before the snow hit it was washed inside (under the mats) and outside, water tank drained and lines emptied. No tarp as it does rub (did that with our daughters car while she was in Thailand a couple winters back and it rubbed the finish in several spots, so we wont ever do that again) It's supposed to stay parked till spring.... but then again, ya never know when you might just have to go pick up a new hoss, on a dry road day of course. :)
