How much distance should go between trotting poles for a 14'2-14'3 hand horse?

Typically trotting poles are set up 4 to 4 1/2 feet apart, but relaly depends on the stride of the horse. I would start wit hthe 4 feet apart and trot the horse over, see how his/her feet fall and adjust accordingly. :)

I set them up and Arrow "puts" them where he feels he needs them....
Then after he wakes up, and stops hitting them, what the girls said, 4'-4.5' between, to start!

Arrow sounds like Stretch. It amazes me that a horse who is a reiner (what I like to think of as a dancer of sorts) can strike EACH AND EVERY trotting pole, regardless of their distance apart! I also start at 4' and increase as required.
