hahah only a fjord.. makes me laugh.. they are soooooo comicaly and have ideas all of their own.. try the food approach.. feed him a carrot or have someone feed him a carrot when your picking up his feet.. do this a couple of times.. then try lifting his foot for a second and giving him a carrot.. he'll soon learn to stand still and wait for his treat.. they are very food ordinated

I can understand how this would be a problem as he could land on someone, but man oh man, to think how much easier hoof trimmings would be if my horses laid calmly on the ground while I worked! I could have all four feet done while sitting next to them on the ground, no more aching back, no more horses leaning into me for support, oh how lovely this would be...

I agree with Wissy on the food. There is a saying that it is in a man's best interest that horses were made with stomachs bigger than their brains, lol. So much cn be accomplished with a carrot! They soon learn to direct their attentions to the edible items and forget about what you are doing, or learn that to behave while doing something gets them a treat.
