SO! I went to the barn to help hay last night and low and behold the bailer was being repared (very minor repair) so I had a few hours to spend with my horse.

Monty the STB is nearly black and seems to attracts the bugs the most so I put my fly mask on him as it doesn't fit around Willow's big jaw so it sits idle in my tack trunk.

Well, Monty owns his girls and let out a loud neigh. When he came out of the barn I was walking down with him towards my girl. They were looking at him like he was new, it was like they didn't recognize him with the fly mask! They started to run and they have access to a lotttt of land.... This is their new favorite thing to do when I try to catch Willow (or when another boarder tries to catch her mare)

Willow, Stella, Ella & Flicka were running like fools with Monty behind them neighing. They were circling Flicka and Willow wasn't letting Monty get near. I walked, and walked, and walked halter & lead in hand.... silly horses.

All of a sudden my horse just makes me stop in my tracks.. I'm not one to make my horse out to be more than she is! she's a funny colored dun, stocky, & sweet QH x Canadian whose my pride and Joy that is no high end show horse. BUT! She did the prettiest thing ever.. almost etched into my brain I just keep picturing it!! Her body fully body arched, legs extended straight out, slow motion, a wonderful spring knee action and just utterly lovely. It was like she was floating!

I love watching horses be horses! The herd dynamics are so interesting. I'm confident in saying my horses favorite thing to do, is be with her friends (and chase her enemies Liberty Dressage 854268 ) Its nice to see her be so happy.

Wish you had a camera on you!

My horses did a similar thing when we put blankets on a couple of them this winter during bad storms. They others thought they were aliens in their new coats. So funny!

I miss seeing that type of stuff with just the two horses, there's not so much herd to have dynamics for. Sounds beautiful, you'll have to try to set up the same situation with a camera close by!

I personally think Willow is beautiful and can really picture her in that pose. Don't you hate missing a photo opportunity like that!!!??? Poor Monty...they must have though he was an equine alien or something with his fly mask!!!
I just love watching herd dynamics and habits. Our gang have very set routines...different grazing spots through the day...can find them like clockwork usually, or a snort from Jewel, who is the "watcher" can set all of ours on alert and windy days are just totally silly....but wonderful to watch.
