| Today was weaning day for two of the fillies, Simmi and Roxy. Now you have to know their mom's to understand the situation. Moochie, Simmi's mom is kind of "go...do whatever you want" kind of mom whereas, Fiesta, Roxy's mom keeps her in sight at ALL times. We have done our usual bring the mares and babies in, mom goes out and baby stays which went picture perfect this morning until Fiesta realized that Roxy didn't follow her to the pasture. Fiesta is a husky girl with a loud voice...let me tell you. I led her to the lower pasture still screaming and Mooch was walking in front of us looking back and giving Moochie the "really, what is your problem??" look. Back in the stable the babies were actually settling in very well until Fiesta started to DEMAND Roxy back. While I was leading them to the lower field you could hear Roxy's little whinny and then a few more whinnies from the other fillies outside, then Laddy tell every body to calm down...it was like a little conversation. The fillies are actually being super. Standing very quietly, Simmi isn't saying a word but then neither is Moochie....Simmi has been very independent of Mooch and Moochie, if human, would let her kids play with matches, Roxy on the other hand, with Fiesta being so attentive , isn't really sure what to do since mom isn't bossing her around. Both have been haltered and groomed so they are as happy as they can be under the circumstances So now we have the mares as far away as we can get them but it has been a whinny , here a whinney there a whinney, all morning, sort of like the relay in 101 Dalmations except with 20 Painted ponies. I am sure the neighbors are lovin' us right about now!!!!!!! A few pics taken just prior to bringing the fillies in. Moochie and Simmi...notice each doing their own thing Fiesta and Roxy...notice practically glued to each other The girls in their new halters..Simmi's is purple and Roxy's is lilac

| I can just picture it all. And very glad that I can't HEAR it all! I'd be a basket case during weaning time ... | |

| Poor little girlies. It was so nice meeting you and all of your babies yesterday Val.
As I've said before, I'm totally in "love" with Roxy. What a gorgeous girl. | |

| It has been like an equine opera all day but much more settled tonight with the babies munching hay and the mom's grazing in the fields. Fred walked down and checked on this at dusk and he said Feista is just looking towards the barn every now and then but no longer calling and Mooch is totally infazed. I don't mean to make Mooch out to be a poor mom because she really is a good mare. It is just that she was a lessons horse for several years and became very used to leaving her foals for periods of time and is a bit on the nonchalant side. Overall though, I am thankful that they have decided to be mannerly tonight and not keep the neighbors awake. | |
