I went to brush my black mare and since Bot Fly eggs are more noticeable on her than my sorrel I noticed she has a over abundance of eggs all down her legs. Anyone have any suggestions to prevent them or am I gonna have to scrape them off with the BBQ square everyday?!?

I have absolutely no idea of how to prevent them. Stretch's show up really easily too. Guess he and the black angus have alot in common! I take them off with either a grooming stone or my neighbours bot knives (got to get me one of them!).

sorry dont know how to prevent them..........but maybe you should move up my side of Cape Breton.......no face flies, no bot flies.....funny that.....tons of horse and deer flies and of course helicopter sized mosquitoes... but, in the fall I get millions of CLUSTER FLIES trying to get in my house............so I'll trade you if you like. lol!

I agree with Joan! I have not once picked bot eggs off a horse, and not for lack of trying to find any! I do get the odd face fly swarm, but they are never prevalent.

Don't forget about the black flies, Joan! I hate them, at least you can hear our heliskeeters landing.

Other than hoping flyspray works... the only way to keep them off the horse is manually making sure they are off the horse! Which is a bit of a pain in the butt.
