Well, we thought we would keep the horses in last night from Irene, and it was a good time to see if Worthy could handle hay or not. He's put on a lot of weight this summer on grass, and senior feed, but we had some real concerns re his ability to eat hay. We have decided if he can't eat hay, we are not going to try and get him through another winter...we feel that once he reaches that point it would be for us, and not for him. He ate almost 2 flakes of 2nd cut hay in his stall last night.....I think he will be ok! And....his energy levels have increased amazingly since I upped his senior feed :-) ! Saw him cantering/pacing last week...and again this morning in the wind...!!! What a guy!

Yeah Worthy!!!

I've read that the slow net hay feeders can really help a horse who quids his hay. It allows them to take smaller bites so they don't jam up. Might be an option for the old guy.
