Just thought it would be neat for us to all copy & paste the "horsey questionnaire" We will in turn learn more about each other, and our horses!



About You


1. how old were you when you first started riding? Eight

2.first horse ridden? Pony rides at every fair but actual lesson would be Blue a dressage horse in Ottawa at Queenswood!

3. first horse trotted on? Blue in my first lesson. Coach had us attempting a posting trot.

4. first horse cantered on? Pony - Browny

5. first horse fallen off? Maverick I believe. Bareback while someone was leading him doing a race against kids on ponies at the trot. Sad lol

6. most recent horse fallen off? Gypsy last summer. Landed on my feet! It was quite impressive. Although I almost came off Willow a few times this summer.

8. first horse jumped with? Maverick

9. first horse that ran away with you? I don't think a horse has ever "ran away with me"

10. first horse that scared the crap out of you? He’s So Blue.. like 14 years ago. That horse used to be serioulsy CRAZY! I hear though that he was a hunter/jumper in Fredericton and now back to barrels again.

11. first horse shown? I've honestly never been in a show.


12. first horse to win a class with? N/A

13. do you/have you taken lessons? I have taken lessons, but haven't for a few years now other than the odd clinic here and there.


14. first horse you've ever ridden bareback? Maverick our first lesson @ MBS we got lead around on a lead rope after we learned to brush.


15. first horse trail ridden with? Silver.. I was so scared. He brought me into an apple tree and I couldn’t get him out.

17. do you ride english or western? Western, but I wouldn't mind picking up an english saddle.

21. ridden side saddle? Fooling around but not in an actual side saddle.



22. first horse leased? Never had to, I always had access to horses anytime. Almost leased Captain though I remember being so excited about the Royal blue halter I got as a present for him for Christmas. But then he was sold lol

29. have you ever barrel raced? Haha for fun but for Willow is NOT impressed with it she doesn't like speed all that much!


30. ever done pole bending? Again, for fun but nothing serious.


31. favourite gait(s)? on my horse I’d go with the lope very smoothe unlike her bouncy trot.



32. ever galloped bareback? I can't say that I have. I've loped but not a gallop.

34. have you ever evented? No, that is some scary stuff!!!



35. have you ever mucked a stall? Yes!


36. have you been bucked off? Many, many, times.


37. ever been on a horse that reared? Yes, my mare likes to throw in the odd rear here and there.

38. horses or ponies? horses, I know some evil ponies.



39. do u wear a helmet? Yes, always.


40. whats the highest you've jumped? 3 feet


41. have you ever ridden at night? Yep!

42. do you watch horsey television shows? I catch Heartland sometimes.. I find it more realistic than any other horse show/movie I've seen.. some parts are cheesy... I used to LOVE the saddle club haha... my friends and I used to pretend we were them.


43. have you ever been seriously injured or hurt from a fall? Messed up both wrist permanently from a fall at the beach 5 years ago.


44. have you ever ridden without anything? As in no tack? Once on my old mare in the round pen! Walk and Paced around. I don't think I'd ever tattempt this with Willow.


45. do you ride in a arena or a ring? Don't they classify as the same thing? LOL I ride in the trails and fields.... and occasionally in the neighbours indoor arena.


46. have you ever been trampled by a horse? Hmmm yes and no. I've been shoved aside by a horse, never knocked over.


47. have you ever been bitten? Yes by and evil pony... bugger. I've also been bit while giving a horse a treat and not holding my hand flat, whooops!


48. ever had your foot stepped on by a horse? More times than I remember. Worst was with sandals on and Brandy took off three toe nails. Outch!



49. do u clean your tack regularly? Once a year really good.



50. ever played ride a buck? Is that when you put a dollar bill on the fender and hold it with you leg during all the transitions? Yes, and... I won :)

55. does english or western? Does both, not specifically trained in either. I feel she’s more of an english horse though.

57. age? *sigh* 9.5 already! Where has time gone!

58. primary disipline(s)? We are avid trail riders. However I'd love to get into reining some day and I'd also love to try dressage.

60. good on the trail? Bombproof, literally probably.


61. did you train this horse yourself? Indeed I did, everything she is, is a product of our work together, the good and bad.


62. vices? None.



63. spooky? Not at all. She's great to hack out alone or in a group.. not much fizzes her.


64.is your horse able to be ridden bareback? Yes but she does little brocos around the ring for the first few minutes at the trot/lope. Walking around is no issue.



65. does your horse come when you call? She does! obviously not when she's on pasture but generally speaking she always comes when I say "Willowwww' or "cookies!" if that fails then I just have to make noise with my zipper and she thinks there is food.



66. is your horse good with children and other horses? She hasn’t been ridden by many children.. but she's great on the ground with them. She is good with other horses, a little mare-ish but nothing too serious.


67. is your horse worked regulary? 1-2 times weekly.


68. ever a lesson horse? I've used her in a handful.



69. does your horse like treats? YES! too much.


70. do you take lessons on your horse? I have, and would like to again.


71. is your horse easy to work around? Yes. She’s always got to see whats going on and has a very small attention span at times but never dirty.


72. has your horse ever escaped from it's stall? Hahaha yes. Too funny… she got into the tiny office somehow and shut the half door. A students parent (who happens to be my dentist) was like “Um, there is a horse in the office)



73. do you feel safe on your horse? Yes.



74. how many hands is your horse? She is 15.2hh (which is good considering her mom is 14.2hh, her daddy is 16hh so she's in the middle :) )


75. is your horse good for the farrier/vet? Im her farrier and yes good as can be. Sometimes knocks over my toe rack just because she can. Vet, she is terrible with.. very sensitive and bends the needles in her neck.. not able to be sedated the past few years so her teeth haven't been done in a while but vet isn't concerned about it.


76. have you ever won classes on your horse? Naw.. like I said I’ve never been in a show.


77. have you ever had a moment where you feel connected to your horse? Everytime I'm with her.


78. does your horse like to dunk hay in the water bucket? Nope!


79. does your horse have special feed or supplement? Just gets a ration balancer with a handfull of BOSS, a dash of garlic powder, and a blob of corn oil.


80. does your horse often have a messy stall? When she's stalled she's fairly clean and does the majority in one corner.

81. does your horse have any special tack? Well, she's a got a fancy saddle that fits her perfectly..


82. do you use a whip and spurs? She’s ultra sensitive to touch and voice. I can use spurs but only at her barn she acts wacko at clinics with spurs for some reason, maybe she senses my nerves?



83. does your horse like to run? In the field she does.. in the ring its hard to even get a hand gallop she gets cranky. On the trails if we are with another horse she like it.



84. how many times a week do u ride your horse? 1-2 times sometimes more.


85. does your horse have any markings? Yeah. Dorsal stripe and dun markins (leg stripes and tips of ears). Star,Strip disconnected snip that resembles an exclamation point.


86. do you braid your horse for shows? i haven't shown her but I would



87. what colour is your horses halter? Usually sports a royal blue rope halter.


88. does your horse follow you? Yes



89. can your horse back up? Yes, sometimes she’s crooked. (damn ultra sensitivity)



90. is your horses trot easier to sit or post? Post… she’s got some knee action

92. describe your horse in one word? LIFE


93. has your horse ever produced offspring? No, and I hope that she never does. There are too many out there to create another.



94. do you and your horse have a colour? Hmmm.. Black/teal


95. what is your horses favorite treat? anything edible. Usually loves bread though.


96. do you normally lunge your horse before riding? Never.. when she was in training as a three year old I did


97. has your horse ever given a pony ride? Yes a few different times.

99. does your horse get dirty easily? I'm lucky that her colour doesn't show dust!!! otherwise she'd look like crap all the time. I can pat her and a puff of dust comes off HAHA she's usually pretty clean though aside from her legs if the paddocks muddy.


100. whats your favorite horsey memory? Kind of lame. But after picking Willow up to bring her home (on her 3rd Birthday ironically) my then coach and I were at the gas station outside Moncton and I opened the trailer door and she just smelled so good. Fresh hay, fresh air… and my coach said "my God she's pretty" and I just felt oh so proud, and happy.

60. good on the trail? Skippy is great, Lady couldn’t care less, Jazzy is a looker but can be convince to keep on trucking.

61. did you train this horse yourself? Skippy most, Jazzy yes beside the backing that was done by LB and Lady not really, well maybe a little.

62. vices? Skippy cribber – started as a baby long before I had her. Lady she is a pony need I say more? Jazzy does on occasion paws – I hate it, she did it before I bought her.

63. spooky? Not at all. Skippy plastic bags and apparently brooms when cleaning cob webs in her neighbour’s stall. Lady she is a pony again need I say more? Jazzy is a looker…

64.is your horse able to be ridden bareback? Skippy and Lady yes, Jazzy maybe haven’t tried.

65. does your horse come when you call? Skippy only if she wants too, pony has a hard time hearing so yes if she hears you. Jazzy come RUNNING!!

Skippy Yes, Lady yes, Jazzy likes kids, but only Christian has ridden her and that was only to cool her down, as to other horses not so much she seems to dislike geldings, tolerant the one that lives with her, but he still needs to watch his back.
67. is your horse worked regularly? Again regularly?? Not at this time but usually 3-4 days a week

68. ever a lesson horse? Skippy yes I have used her, Lady only with my niece, Jazzy absolutely not

71. is your horse easy to work around? Skippy and Lady Yes…Jazzy depending on her mood.

72. has your horse ever escaped from it's stall? Skippy at a show once. Lady whenever she can, Jazzy has but doesn’t try.

75. is your horse good for the farrier/vet? Skippy yes, Lady mostly, she gets sore (arthritis) Jazzy falls a sleep

76. have you ever won classes on your horse? Yes on Skippy and Jazzy, lady is too small for me.

78. does your horse like to dunk hay in the water bucket? Yes…grumble

79. does your horse have special feed or supplement? They all have different diets…lots of roughage and H2O for everyone.

80. does your horse often have a messy stall? Skippy does…the other two are pretty good.

81. does your horse have any special tack? Their own pads, bits and bridles. On the hunt for a saddle for Jazzy.

83. does your horse like to run? Skippy sometimes , lady would rather not, Jazzy LOVES it and I mean LOVES it.

84. how many times a week do u ride your horse? Usually 3-4, lately hasn’t happened 

85. does your horse have any markings? Skippy is a leopard Appy with 4 stockings and a blaze and snip. Lady has a stripe and 1 sock, Jazzy has a star and stripe and some whorls

87. what colour is your horses halter? Skippy is leather, Jazzy has a leather one and a purple one, Lady has a purple one

88. does your horse follow you? Skippy yes if there is a rider on board, Lady sometimes, Jazzy - yes

93. has your horse ever produced offspring? Skippy and Lady yes (not with me) Jazzy no, nor will she as long as I have her unless she proves herself in the showring and I can find a stud that fixes her conformation faults.

100. whats your favorite horsey memory? I owned a Standardbred stallion who cracked a bone in his leg. He was off for a year but when he was sound and could race again he equalled his mark as a 7 year old. It was exciting considering he was to never race again. I also showed him @ a local show in Truro. He ended being Reserve Champion in Halter over 20 horses. No one could believe he was a Standardbred or a stallion. I have lots of memories with all my horses and they are all favourite to me but the 2 above special!

Also if she is on the cross ties and all the other horses have been put away in their stall she will turn her head towards her stall and then back at me a few times as if to say are we done , times up - that's where I want to be.
