bad day, need help

I need to put down my old horse before he falls down and can't get up (again). I can't bury him on my property because it is too a small and the well and the river are in the way (you need lots of distance from these things). Is there anyone in Antigonish who could help? This is the hardest thing to do as it is .... I can't do it myself.

Thanks Trish, he's only 23 but he suddenly got several health problems which I have struggled to treat and though he's eating very well again he is simply 'disappearing'. Fast. Must be something really wrong going on inside, poor baby. It really sucks to lose the good huggers.

Sounds disgusting, but do you have any fur farms around you? They might be able to dispose of the body. I've heard of people sending horses to the zoo in the valley and I think its possible at the zoo here in Moncton (I don't think you have any zoo's in your neck of the woods do you?).

Thankfully I have found an experienced person to pull the trigger and a nice neighbor with enough land to take him away and offer him to the sky. (so I don't have to worry about deep ground freeze issues and digging holes in February( If I wait that long).


Sooo, I make the decision and he decides to look a bit better yesterday. God, this is crazy-making stuff. So i wait and see again. I have THREE diagnosis from 3 different vets.
#1 offers no particular image of the future - just that he will survive with possible permanent neurological deficits. And the ongoing need for expensive meds.
#2 says it's a brain tumor
#3 says it's a cancer somewhere

Not a great set of choices. Guess I still wish they were all wrong

It was like with wee Haimish.......when you just cant see them suffer anymore, and you know what the kindest thing is, no matter how much it hurts, You will know. Hugs for you

I'm so sorry for your loss, Anne Louise. I think you have made the hardest decision, one most of us with animals of any kind will eventually face. He was a lucky boy to have been so well cared for and loved~ I wish all horses were so fortunate.

OHH MY.. I am so very sorry for your loss. This has to be so hard for both you and Isobel. You've both lost a very dear friend. I hope you find another equine soon who can help ease your pain and help fill the void left in your lives. I know a new equine friend will never replace Prince, but there are so many out there who need someone to love and care for them the way Prince was loved.
