pea soup anyone

I have a ham bone with some ham left on it in the fridge.. ok so I've never made pea soup before.. and I love it.. so I wanna know how to make it.. anyone????

Pea soup is about the only soup I like.. yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy.. come on you guys someone must have a receipe for me!

I love pea soup if made the right way...My nanny makes the best...But she can't remember how to make it anymore...Damn Alzheimer's disease...Only wish we had of gotten her write down some of her favorite recipes..But it onset so fast

I was thinking the same thing. My mom brough some to me last fall and it sat in the fridge till it eventually got shoved to the back. I found the container a couple months later :oops: with the lid ready to burst. Luckily mom had labeled it so I didn't have to look inside. I was afraid it was going to explode on the way to the garbage.

I have an awesome soups and stews cookbook at home with atleast 200 receipes. I'll see what I can find.

Try this Wissy,

Split Pea and Ham Soup,
1 c chopped onion
1 tsp veg. oil
1 pound dried split peas
1 pound ham
1 ham bone
salt and pepper to taste

Saute onions with veg. oil. Remove and add to pot with dried peas, ham, and ham bone. Add enough water to cover ingredients and season with
salt and pepper.
Cover and cook until there are no peas left, just a green liquid, 2 hours.
While cooking, check to see if water is evaporating. You may need to add
more water as the soup continues to cook.
Once the soup is a green liquid, remove from heat, and let stand so it will
thicken. Once thickened, you may need to heat through to serve.

Some people add a diced carrot, celery. Other people soak there peas first
to cut down on cooking time.

I haven't tried it yet, but I plan too. Let me know if you make it first and
I'll try some of yours.

This is what I do....kinda fool proof!!

Follow the directions for the peas (soaking over night is the best) and make sure you pick out all the bad ones!!

Cut off any fat before you boil your ham
Boil your ham,once it boils turn down to simmer for about an hour or so..
Cut off any meat that didn't separate and remove bone

Add peas and onions...I also add kidney beans, carrots and chunked potatoes..(celery..optional...i don't care for it).
Add more water so that it just covers the peas..

Cover and simmer until the peas are soft..( approx 2 hours)...keep an eye on it..you can add water if it gets too thick


Sea Salt and pepper to taste

I didn't make it yet.. but will on the weekend.. can't wait.. I threw the bone and ham in the freezer until I'm ready.. I bought the split peas already.. .. yummmmmmmmmmm
