The e-mail came back un-delivered List of ingredients (help) 989857 said it was invalid. Strange indeed, not sure where to look now.

I'm pretty sure they use molasses as a binder but I could be wrong. These products all contain grains, one reason why I don't feed them. The other is, unless your testing your hay you have no idea what vitamins/minerals your horse isn't receiving. You could essentially be 'overdosing' your horse. Its all a guessing game without having the hay tested.

That is exactly what I heard as well Barefoot_Horsegirl, about the molasses. I am trying to do what I feel is the healthiest for my horse in my situation. ( I have to board my horse). Trying to stay basic and simple and thought the equalizer would be a good supplement. The hay is a very high quality, however I do not believe it has been tested.
I am looking into doing a detox on my horse and thought I would eliminate the equalizer since there are signs of black matter in her white line. She does not get any grass at all, since she is in a gravel/dirt paddock. Thought the equalizer may be the cause. Only other feed she gets is oats. Just doing a process of elimination.
Any information on this topic right now is being welcome and considered
Thanks guys

Equalizer was recommended to me for my (probably) insulin resistant horse a number of years ago and I actually purchased a bag but have never fed it. When I discussed this with my trimmer she told me that it was extremely high in alfalfa which would NOT be a good thing to feed her especially at .75 kg per day. She had all the info directly from Purina (not on the label) but has misplaced it. She e mailed them again the other day and is still waiting to hear back from them.

Munch is now on a vet directed diet as the sugar in the grass this summer has blown her up like a balloon - she gets a little bit of flax and boss and that is it. Vet has also told me to feed Equalizer - this is why we are trying to get the info about the Alfalfa again. I want to be able to present my proof that it is not good for fat girls like Munch. I do have a supplement for her and it also has alfalfa in it but at 30 mg per day not enough to send her sugar up. My ideal supplement would have 0 alfalfa in it but have yet to find one.

I would love to be able to talk to an "independent" equine nutritionist about supplements but would not trust the opinion of one that works for any feed company!!LOL

Oh ... and what the Bleeding heart are wheat by product????

Oh Oh ... they don't mention molasses at all but it has to be held together into pellet form by something!?!?

from the Equine Cushings site:

The ingredients given were:
Dehydrated alfalfa, Wheat by-products, Calcium carbonate, Dicalcium phosphate,
Salt, Lysine, Soy oil, Yeast, Flavouring agent, Vitamins, Trace minerals

GUARANTEED ANALYSIS
Crude Protein............. min. ...........12.0%
Iron (Fe) .................actual.......... 1,000 mg/kg
Crude Fat ................... min. ...........6.0%
Copper (Cu) ...........actual.......... 240 mg/kg
Crude Fiber ................ max. ..........10.0%
Manganese (Mn) ....actual.......... 600 mg/kg
Sodium (Na) ............... actual ........1.0%
Zinc (Zn).................actual.......... 700 mg/kg
Calcium (Ca) .............. actual ........2.5%
Cobalt (Co).............actual.......... 2.0 mg/kg
Phosphorus (P) .......... actual ........2.5%
Fluorine (F).............max............. 50 mg/kg
Magnesium (Mg) ........ actual ........0.3%
Vitamin A................min.............. 39,000 I.U./kg
Sulfur (S) .................... actual ........0.25%
Vitamin D3..............min.............. 7,200 I.U./kg
Potassium (K) ............ actual ........1.0%
Vitamin E................min.............. 1,000 I.U./kg
Iodine (I)..................... actual ........4.3 mg/kg
Selenium................added ......... 1.8 mg/kg

One report said the NSC is 10%, so it would be safe to feed from that aspect BUT I personally would
never use it because of the high iron and manganese which inhibit the uptake of the zinc and copper, throwing the ratios way off.

Still no mention of molasses - or any other ingrediant that could be used for a binder. Anyone have any idea what the Bleeding heart wheat by products could be????

I distrust a list of ingrediants that seems incomplete or simply does not list stuff they do not consider important ie what binds the ingrediants together into a pellet?

Or am I just paranoid?

I am using a supplement with oats right now. Its from Manna Pro. And in a pelleted form, which I like better than powder.

I use kelp. ground flax and a new supplement I bought at Greenhawk- i will get the name when I get home 'cause I can't remember. LOL

I does have alfalfa in it as well as soy flour but they only get 1 oz. Equalizer I have to feed .75 kg. Waaaay too much Alfalfa for Munch.

Kelp also has lots of mineral. TC posted the kelp info on this forum at one time so maybe it is archived somewhere?

Kelp has many minerals - most in very small amounts. Not enough to balance lacking hays but all are good for your horse. Kelp seems to be a great supplement all around.

One caution for feeding it free choice: If the horse does not have a good source of salt (some can't get enough from a lick - loose seems to be best) then they might eat the kelp for its salt content and overdose on iodine.

I feed 'Source' in a measured amount mainly as an iodine supplement (horses get free-choice plain white salt) but get the benefit of all those other minerals too.

I haven't found any powdered minerals locally that don't have iron in them. I'm concerned that this is only adding to the already high iron in most Maritime hays and throwing the out of balance minerals ratios even farther off.

Source - all natural micro nutrients for horses from kelp and other green algaes

http://www.4source.com/

Got mine at Greenhawk. They don't often carry it though - maybe because people around NS don't seem to be interested.

their iodine levels are guaranteed .. not like the other kelp products where just a minimum level given and a maximum level could be highly variable and too high at times

Has anyone used the Omega Alpha MinereQ minerals. Someone suggested those as well. I do use kelp with my oats, just not sure what minerals to use yet.
