| Has anyone ever fed haylage out of round bales...just wondering if it is safe to feed to horses the bales only have 30 to 40% moisture. Smells really good!!! | |

| Yeah i hear ya.... thats why i am scared to feed it myself but these bales have only 30% moisture and the round bales of hey don't seem to have any nutricial value in them. The few people i have spoke to have fed it and there horses are fine??? I am confused lol.... | |

| Four or maybe five years ago I went to a seminar that was put on by agripoint on growing hay for horses. There was talk about six horses that had died from eating haylage somewhere down the south shore.I do know people that feed it . My cousin sells alot of haylage to people for horses. This time of year they will not sell any for horses because the weather is to warm and it spoils to fast. | |

| We feed all of our horses haylage and have had great success - we always start them out really gradually and eventually they get full choice for the winter. We are really really really careful of mold though and always making sure it smells right.
We lost one sheep this winter to listeriosis... I was not a happy camper. Mold was likely the culprit - she was at another guys place and he doesn't check the haylage as diligently as we do. | |
