Apparently the horses had a party last night , got rowdy and busted through one of the fences. Luckily it was into our smaller upper field that opens into one of the corrals. When Fred went to feed this morning, he found everybody except 2 ,who were where they were suppose to be, lounging in the corral. He went to check the fence and about 75 feet was cleaned of wire. Everrybody seems fine, no marks and they aren't talkin' about how the fence got broken. So now hubby is driving new posts, stringing more wire...muttering and cussing a little under his breath...not the best start but it could have been worse.

At least they all stayed home, last summer my weanling took a road trip and visited all our neighbors before trotting back up the road and home.
If you have livestock, no matter how good the fencing, at some point some time, they will find a way out.

Glad nothing else happened.....

If the fence was pulled to the inside something ran inside to the pasture....If the fence was pulled outward the hores did it......
if pulled towards the inside be sure to check alternate side as in most cases if a moose it will leave an exit and take it.....

We had a fencing incident 3 weeks ago....Horse went through and we put him down last week due to result of injuries....

Just glad no one was hurt.

So sorry to hear about Pirate being put down.

We were very fortunate. We have a small field fenced off within our larger pasture. The little field has a gate that we usually leave open so the horses athat are in the field can go into shelter in one of our corrals. That is where we found everyone.. We are thinking now that something must have spooked the herd and they just busted through. We actually have a couple of newcomers and last night I noticed very faint marks, not even hair off, on one mare's hind legs so I think she , being new, may have just gone through by mistake. A few stakes and wire and things are back to normal.

At this time we have 25 including the babies. Some of the babies will be leaving so our number will be down later in the fall. We have Laddy, 5 AQHA mares including my old girl, 8 Paint mares and 2 ponies. Folks ask us how many boarders we have and give us funny looks when we say 'none". I have told a few people that we have an "organic fertilizer facility". lol

There were 18 in the field the day that the fence broke and we had two weaned fillies in the corral where everybody ended up. My husband is very careful about making sure that they are secure from the possiblity of getting on the road at night. Our pasture is divided into four sections which we rotate and everynight they are brought into a section that has heavy page wire at the front. We rarely have too many problems with them bothering fences but the other night was just a wake up call that things can happen in a snap.

Last fall we had a moose go through the electric fence. What a mess he left. Luckily the critters came back to their usual feeding stations in the morning. But judging by the little piles of poor around my neighbour's property, there is one little black pony that had quite the adventure before he came back for breakfast!
