Instruction on cleaning stalls/barn one handed

first of all, life is so much simpler with the correct tools for the job. So whether you have a sprained wrist, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder or a broken collar bone you can still perform your daily chores without too much inconvenience or pain.
This handy dandy wheelbarrow for instance......I used to hate it and would never use it, however, there are advantages to this huge metal 4 wheel drive one lever empty option.......it only takes one hand to drive it.






so today, I decided to give it a shot.......and hung up my manure picker for a short, handled plastic snow shovel, a rubber glove and a pair of knee guards.
The shovel is great and light and scoops up urine and used shavings and can be used one handed quite easily once you use either the wall or a boot to help get everything on to it.
The glove and the knee guards are obviously for getting on my knees and picking the poop out piece by piece and inserting into aforesaid cart.

After driving the cart out down the yellow s h i t road I pull the lever and the bucket automatically flips up and dumps the load.....you have to be on a little bit of a hill though to make sure all the contents are gone......Flip back up the bucket and drag it back into barn...........all this done with one arm........now the tricky part is the sweeping, and if I had one I would BLOW out the dust....but it does not work on gravel.....so if you have to wear a sling, I have devised a method of attaching said broom with some baling twine under the bad arm to just hold it up in place while the other arm still does the actual sweeping motion.........vacuum cleaners have always been a one handed deal so can still get all the cobwebs etc without any changes to that chore. I hope this has been helpful......look for more tips later.....how to do up jeans one handed.....wipe you .....you know.......and whatever else I can think of to help all those other souls suffering with the same sort of afflictions.

Holy crow Joan, good thing you don't have two clydes or something! Little poops would be easier to pick up. My dad is up there with the tractor last night/today, you should go get him to clean the barn right out for you ;)

When I broke my right hand, the weirdest thing was brushing my teeth with my left. That took some time to get used to!

thanks for the thought Wendy, but I have rubber mats and nice shavings so its not a big deal.....like you said,,,,,just little poops and I usually pick out everytime they poop so not much accumulates.......its the other things that are harder,,like hammering nails or picking out feet.....but if I have to do it for 6 weeks or more, believe me, I will figure out an easy way.

Instead of sweeping, can't you put the vaccum hose on the outlet or something and use it like a blower? I may be way off here, I try not to spend too much time with my vaccume.

Most all shop vacs have a blower option. You just pull the hose out the the tank and attach it to the other opening (usually right beside the suction one).

theres a hole at the top, I just thought that was an exhaust port.......gonna check it out later......thanks guys.

Just checked mine here at work too, and the blow hole is on the top. I have to use it quite frequently when I plug the hose Safflower up things that I probably shouldn't.

Joan you really should have been a circus act! But you know what they say, necessity is the mother of all invention. I'm not sure about the broom under your arm though - I'd be afraid it'd jar the collar bone.
