| Hi Guys,
Bella has had really sore feet since i brought her home 4 weeks ago but that has really been nothing new since she has been adjusting to barefoot since last sept, so i was not overly worried but i tried to put her boots on last week when i picked one of her fronts she was a little unsteady, but could not bear to have her other front picked up and seemed to stagger on her hinds, so i just put it back down and have left her alone thinking she would be ok, i have also arranged some massage for her but the woman cant come for a couple of weeks, i was wondering if she had pulled a muscle, any ways tonight i forced the issue and made her pick them up so i could pick them out and she is really really touchy and she has thrush and it looks BAD, i am trying not to panic after reading it can eat away the frog, i rinsed them in apple cider vineger, IS THAT ENOUGH ??? WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BE DOING !!! and it took me ages to make her pick up her feet, i think she only did it because she knew i would not give up and would have been out there all night, frog looks black and shrivelled and smells ++++++ i don't think she will keep them up long enough for photo's. I NEED ADVICE GUYS PLEASE.

| The quickest is Whitelightning...you may have to order some to get it to your neck of the woods...
In the meantime, you can clean up what you can with a stiff brush. Try soaking her feet in borax and water..(the old fashion laundy soap)...
Is she sore on soft ground? Hard ground? or rocky ground?
She sounds like a case that will need hoof boots to get her by, not while she is out to pasture, but if you plan on bringing her onto tougher ground..
Thrush is so common... but fixable.. :)

| Thanks Guys, JJ came round last night and said it is not the worst case of thrush she has ever seen and she should be ok if i do a good clean out and tea tree oil every day, but her frogs have always been small but they do look worse now but i will keep a good watch on them and the info TC sent me is very interesting, so thanks SD but i will watch for now, and i am not sure what white lightening is ????? but another web site said if you cant put something in your mouth or on your body do not put it on the frog !!!!! she is very touchy, Gudrun comes on monday so will see what she thinks as well, and TC come up with an excellent idea get gudrun to show me how to rasp her feet so that i can give them a little trim so that her boots fit all the way through to the next trim. | |

| Whitelightning is a solution, once mixed 50/50 with Vinegar, makes a vapour that instantly kills bacteria and fungas. It is used in orange juice, so yes, it is safe. :)
If her frogs have always been small, she probably ALWAYS had thrush... YUP, horses can have it for YEARS and it can go unnoticed.

| I agree with ~TC~. White Lightening is safe to use. I used it on my mare and some got sprayed on my face. All is good....my warts are finally disappearing. JUST KIDDING!!!! I have sensitve skin and it did not irritate at all.
Two doses and the thrush is gone. I also use the Easy Boot Epics. Dot has a stone bruise and very flat feet. The boots have made it easier for her and I can ride her as well. We are doing the best we can to get her barefoot. I won't give up.
Thanks to ~TC~, my friend has been helping me with Dot's feet...so far everything has been fixable. I'm taking her to the Ex. next week with the okay from the judge to ride in my Epics.
Thanks ~TC~ and Janice!!!!

- and very flat feet.
And I know you already know this by now Dot, but for those who might not, those flat feet WILL become more concaved and thicker...but it comes with time. The hoof wall has to grow down nice and strong, tight, well connected, first. THEN it will be strong enough to stay together (Without the flaring at the bottom), to allow that sole to grow in thicker... ultimatley LIFTING the horse's weight enough to allow the concavity to take place. However, this does not mean holding the horse up off the ground by it's walls... Periphrial loading like that is what may have caused the feet to go "Splat" and become flat in the first place. When all is said and down, the sole and frogs continue to take on the weight of the horse, and the whole hoof can work as a unit, as it was suppose to. To reduce force upon peak impact, take the weight of the horse once fully loaded with the horse, and then a nice tight toe to push the horse off... :) I LOVE THIS STUFF! - Quote :

Great job! This is a step in the right direction for those who finally want to do a full and complete transition... As we know, it takes a hoof to grow a nice tight wall about 7 to 12 months out of a year... And anyone who shows their horse WILL be showing in some of those months.. ver the years (I have witnessed). Either the class did not allow the boots, or the rider was kind of embarressed to show in them.. This is the start of something great! and I am happy to hear... I will come cheer you on in your boots. :)

| Thanks ~TC~, I'm sure we will be very entertaining for some people. It will be interesting to hear the comments about our boots.
We will persevere through this transition. She's also a tough horse and that helps.
See you at the Ex!! | |
