Alright ladies I need your opinions!! We are looking at fencing the property in the spring with wood planks on our pre-existing wood posts. What are your suggestions for height? How many boards? How far apart are your posts? Did you secure the planks with nails or screws? What type of wood did you use for the planks? What mesaurements were your boards? We will be combining electrobraid into it as well, we were thinking of two boards with a strand of electrobraid running between them, and possibly one at the top as well.

No suggestions...but GAH, this sound like a lot of work. I'm sure screws with an electric drill would be easier to deal with then nails and they would hold better.

We are going to hire someone to do all the work lol - last time I attempted fencing it didn't turn out great lol. There was a crew of four of us opperating the post-hole-digger in the rain on a cold day and we wanted to just get the holes dug and lets say the fence line didn't turn out exactly straight!! So we shall hire strong young men to do al lthe dirty work for us lol.

just from past experience.. make sure your planks aren't to heavy or wide.. they make a great sail if they are wide.. wind will take them down.. oh how I know .. lol... what we used about 14 years ago and part of that fence is still standing ( we haven't maintained it for the past 10 yrs) .. was post and rail.. the rails were split in half.. which made it easy to nail.. yes we nailed not screwed.. we put in our first post where we wanted it.. then a post about 1/2 where we wanted the fence line to run.. then took heavy string and strung from one post to the other and lined up the posts in between, this ensured a fairly straight line.. make sure you dig deep to put in your post so they are strong .. for the corners we used 2 -4x4 post to strenghten the corners and braced them as well... then we put 3 split rails on each post.. and ran electric fence above the top rail and in between the second and third.. we used extension insulators to make sure the electric stuck out further than the rails to keep the horses from leaning on the fence.. make sure you put your rails on the inside of the paddock or field.. if a horse does lean or kick the fence it won't pop off .. they are stronger nailed on the inside..
Now if I was doing it again.. I would use electrobraid and put my posts far apart and only run the braid no rails.. My sister has this and after over ten years only a few posts needed to be replaced and mostly maintenance free on to tighen up periodically.. works great.. on a flat you can run the braid 50 ft between posts.. and the braid won't sag under snow or ice .. make sure you keep it tight.. Good luck with fencing what ever you choose..
