I'm tired of hospitals!!!

So not a whole lot of you guys know (some do but not all) I've been super sick lately...

the past 2 weeks I have been having pain after I eat and major poops. I also started to get a swollen ankle. I went into my family doctor got my yearly check up and only mentioned my ankle since I figured maybe I ate something to make my intestines hate whatever I ate. (guess not). So my physician sent me for physiotherapy. I went to physio and my 3rd visit (Friday afternoon) I could barely walk at all. It hurt so bad to walk I was in tears.

Physio showed concern and sent me right over to Outpatients to see what the on call doctor had to say since I had odd bruising showing up on my other foot. So I spent the afternoon sitting in out patients where I started feeling strange and got so cold my teeth chattered. I ended up having bloodwork done. This doctor said I was retaining fluid and my urine was all normal. I was sent home to get anti-inflammatory pills and fluid pills. I ended up the whole night sweating off my clothes TWICE and getting up numerous times to the bathroom and waking up with pain.

My Saturday was un-eventful and I spent the whole day on the couch sweating and dealing with the pain. By evening my mom said enough was enough and she took me into the hospital. I was running a temperature. The doctor gave me a toilet hat and gave me antibiotic pills and told me to bring in a stool sample. How gross.. I will NEVER want to do that EVER again. I then threw up not too long after I got my sample in the wee hours of the morning. That doctor Saturday wanted me back in Sunday to run a CBC. So I ended up going back in on Sunday.

the fevers had stopped and i figured it was because of the anti-inflammatories prescribed. I haven't taken any and I have been fine. so all THREE doctors pretty much told me the same thing. I have an internal infection somewhere causing the pain and swelling in my ankles. All THREE doctors told me I need to go in and talk to my family doctor....... It is IMPOSSIBLE to get into see my family doctor. it usually takes weeks, sometimes a month... Sadly I still have to wait until Wednesday to find out what is wrong with me. I have to lay on a couch, unable to walk because of the pain in my ankles and my stomach for the next two days to find out what exactly is wrong with me. All three doctors quite concerned and told me it is something serious but I can't get in to get the rest of the results until Wednesday... I hate health care systems...

All I'm told is it isn't kidneys but it could possibly be liver or an upper GI problem... This doesn't help... Atleast I am off work for a week. But I can't even see my horses and I can't even ride. I"m so depressed!

i hope you find out whats wrong asap! and ill send some feel good vibes your way.. its never nice to have to be away from your horses for illness.

Goodness girl, you must be at your witt's end. It sounds like they haven't a CLUE what it is - and if that's the case, they need to run every test known to mankind to find out what it is. I'm no doctor but I can tell that SOMETHING serious is going on. Did they test your blood sugar levels? Any history of diabetes in your family? If you don't get any answers, ask your family doctor to ADMIT you to hospital. Around here it's the only way to get tests done and the results back within a reasonable amount of time.

Do your best to be that "squeaky wheel" so that you'll get the attention that you need/deserve. And pick up some good horse books or magazines because you'll probably be camping out at emerg a fair bit. Friggin' health care system! Ugh!

Keep us posted because I think about you all the time and wonder what the heck is going on. The horsies will enjoy their little break, even though it's sending you around the bend. But if you don't get this looked after it'll be even longer before you can go "horsing around" again!

WHAT YOU NEED IS C4B to be working at your local hospital............do you know any nurses that are your buddies, or a doctor that rides?????? sometimes its not what you know, its WHO you know that get things done for you........I know exactly your frustration...........but get on that damn phone and make some noise.......phone 811 and talk to the folks there and see what they say.......its recorded, so someone somewhere is listening. good luck

When they took blood at the hospital they can usually tell from the white blood count if it is infection or not - anytime we've had any blood done they get initial results within a couple hours it seems. When my son was five I had taken him up and the blood work showed infection somewhere combined with his other symptoms we were trundled off to Fredericton for an appendectomy (sp??). Hope you get some answers soon! Sounds like quite an infection. Any tick bites lately? My friends hubby thought he was developing a hernia, turned out to be swollen ab glands from a tick bite. Try not to panic as that just makes everything worse, rest and heal.

WBC and RBC were within normal limits but the other bloodwork is so off all they can tell me is that it is 'internal'.
Obviously if it feels like my insides are falling out!!! They could do most of the blood tests Friday but not everything because it was late in the afternoon they drew blood. They did do the rest of the bloodwork Monday AM and my family doctor got the rest of the results but still I couldn't get into see her until Wednesday.

Fortunately I did get the best care while I was in hospital. I knew pretty much every nurse because of either work or because of ponies. I quite enjoyed the pre-heated blankets.

They did every blood test known to man kind I think. I am waiting on an Upper GI scope test. The first doctor seemed to think it was symptons of Crohns... I read about Crohns and I definitely do not want it to be that!!! Although a lot of the effects relate to what I'm dealing with. Yikes!

But definitely no bug bites or tick bites. I haven't been out and about in the woods. Maybe I'm just stressed and need time away from my crappy job lol

I don't think I'd be at home if I was that sick. You should be admitted.

Hang in there Sherri. Hopefully on Wed you'll get some answers or at least an indication on what course of action they are going to take. We're thinking about you and sending good vibes (not my rooster vibes - healing vibes!)

811 Tammy is an emergency medical number you can call and talk to Nurses/Practicioners or whatever, tell them your symptoms and they can recommend stuff...............I called them when my foot was black and my legs swollen.......she knew over the phone what was going on...........and told me to go to the hospital...

Good Lord Sherri this is serious thistle. Plus retaining fluid to boot. That alone can cause serious problems. tell your doctor to get his @ss in his hand and get on to the problem!!!

Anybody heard how she is doing ??? worried that she has not been on with the test results... maybe she is back in hospital ?????

I had my doctor appointment last evening at 6:30 pm. I hobbled into the doctors office. She was greatly concerned. Called an Interntal practioner at Valley Regional. That physician said it sounded like a strep infection so they sent me to a arthritic specialist in Halifax QE2 this morning.
I seen a Dr. ShatShat (hehehehehe) she ordered me some chest radiographs and some more specific bloodwork to be done to see what is causing the swelling in my ankles and pain in my joints.

I still don't have answers but was prescribed some steroids. Oh joy.

I spoke to a friend of mine and she said she had a strep infection years ago which was super painful and caused bad bruising like her legs were beaten by a baseball bat. Which is exactly how my ankles feel. But it still does not solve the whole irritibal bowels lol... I don't know what is more concerning. Having a GI systen or walking at this point.

Well, maybe not the news we were hoping for, (that you were all better!) but at least they are looking into it further, to take care of you....get better soon.....and keep after 'em!

You were lucky to get in to see the specialist so quickly. AMAZING! It sounds like they're still fishing for answers, so be prepared for a ton of tests while they try to figure things out. And INSIST on a diagnosis. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Still no word but the #1 thing the specialist said was a possible Strep infection internally which can be very painful and cause bruising..

The prednisone they put me on is helping quite a bit. The swelling in my ankles has gone down and it is causing anxiety and insomnia like it said it would... Great.

I assume you are also on antibiotics to treat the strep. I feel so bad for you, I hope you will start to feel a whole lot better real soon. Strep is realy nothing to fool with. Anxiety is a real lady slipper and it is exacerbated by lack of sleep, but at least you know it will all go away after your treatment has been completed. Hang in there kiddo!!! A trick to handling the anxiety when it gets realy bothersome.. put on one of your favorite tunes and sing out loud with it. That is a process that redirects the brain help alleviate the anxiousness for a while. Another trick is brushing your teeth, something that involves hand corrdination, and some focus.
