Horses riding on the trail

Here is an article from the Guardian newspaper on PEI. There are two ladies leading a campaign to allow horses on the Confederation Trail. They say it is a safety issue and an assurance issue. I have my own insurance, so I don't see what the issue is!

It's a shame, I ride the trails all the time without them I would be very limited.

Ridge and Louie are very well liked on the trails, it is hard to believe the way somepeople think.

I too have my own insurance, and kick my poo! Just proper edicate.

But I have met some nasty people, and while getting rude with me about my horse on the trails, their dog is running around and underneath my horse, (who is standing totally still) with out a leash, go figure!

I think the trails should be for everyone. Just my opinion:)

there is alway an excuse not to let the horses on the trails but it is up to us to fight to keep them on when there is meets go ans show that you have the anwsers to their concerns there is a national urge to have the trails either motorized which includes all or non motorized which includes horses bikes walkers skiers etc but when you hear of meeting go and make noise that is the only way we will be heard

Wow, I feel so fortunate to be able to ride the rails of trails in St. Margarets Bay....horses are so respected by all users...we encounter ATV'ers that are more than respectful of the horse, dogs, bicycles, walkers etc. When I ride the trails I ALWAYS scoop the manure into the woods, well off the trail out of respect for the other users. Its so easy to do if you use a childs size shovel that you can get at the dollar store, just cut the handle off it. It fits nicely into a saddle bag. I find it hard to believe that horses are not allowed on the Confederation trail...horsebackriding promotes active, healthy lifestyles and should be viewed as an essential form of recreation. I support any trail that promotes and respects horses!!! Shame on a group or government agengy that does not support this. Its imperative that riders respect the rules of the trail and also maintain trail ettiquette
