| I take the Snickers out for a walk every hour for about 15mins or so, just to let him wander and get used to the lead. Today, Shaemus was at the wooden part of the fence sticking his head through and MOUTHING to him...so I let them nuzzle each other for a little bit, watching to make sure Shaemus didnt just grab him or anything.........but nothing like that happened....I already told you that every time the little guy cries out, Shaemus comes running, braying, to find out whats up and when he cant see him he runs up and down the fence line trying to get a glimpse of him. Tomorrow Sooke and C4B are coming over, we will check him out for the vet to see if he has dropped his little balls yet and then I'm going to lock Shaemus in his stall and let the little guy out in the small paddock by himself for an hour or so. I heard him cough a couple of times today, nothing serious, maybe just the hay, but I will be watching and listening to make sure it doesnt get any worse. He was used to being outside all the time in a herd situation, so am hoping he doesnt get too depressed about not having a scratching buddy yet. One step at a time....... | |

| Good Morning Ladies. Sat. Sept.24. Really quiet night.....I didn't hear any coughing and Shaemus has quit digging....well, at least for last night. I have received a few donations towards my Donkey Denutting Drive and I am really grateful for that. I will be having both boys done at the same time, hopefully pretty quickly so I can get on with letting them out together. My paddocks were meant for FULL SIZED horses and since I haven't had anything quite that large out there in a while, they are totally overgrown......Snickers just gets lost in the weeds and If I didnt have him on a lead I wouldnt be able to find him again for weeks.
Once the girls and I get the barn loft all cleaned out today to get ready for Survivor next weekend, I am going to hot wire the little back pen behind the barn so Snickers can get out for a while on his own and still be able to get into the barn. The electric fencer is the only thing that seems to work on the donkey.....he can crawl his way under anything..he is really nimble and bendy...........I will have to take down my top line of electrobraid and move it into the middle between the bottom row and what is now the middle row seeing as how the new midget doesnt even reach THAT high....I could almost put in a dog door with a flap for him rather than the big sliding door I have now.
Last year when we had Sophie.....the Great Pyrenese dog...Ed had taken my man door on the front of the barn and made a dog door there for her and Sam to come in and out......Donkey manages to use it too, but I dont think Snickers can step up that high to get over the lip just yet.
I had just finished Donkey proofing the barn last month....and making the alley way into a mini indoor for Shaemus and Haimish to play in when its ugly out.......I will have to reconfigure everything now to make it Snickers proof.

| Good Morning Ladies......Suday Sept. 25......Had a really good productive day yesterday!!! C4B(Carol) and 2 of her dogs came early and helped get all the old fence posts and junk wood out from the hay loft. Now you may be asking what the heck they were all doing up there in the first place..........WELL, ..4 years ago, my husband, for reasons only known to himself, and without consulting moi......decided that he would move them all from behind the barn to the upstairs. With the notion ( I am assuming) of removing all the electric fence insulators and cutting them up for firewood............only, it was one of those tasks that never got done......and as I have 15 girls coming next weekend for Survivor, I needed the room for their beds!!! There were only 10 of us sleeping up there last year, so it was not that inconvenient, but I was sick and tired of looking at them. Sooke(Ainsley) and I had started clean up a week ago, but that was before Haimish took a downturn and all my concentration was centrered around him. Carol and Reggie working hard.... We got a great deal accomplished in a couple of hours, and as Carol was leaving Sooke, arrived . Her part was to help hunt for the Snickers balls. We drew straws to see who would hold and who would hunt........I got the Hunt straw..... He was so quiet....but then again, his best buddy Sam was right there giving him words of encouragement... Unfortuneately, I did not find any treasure.......which means I will not be able to get both boys done at the same time. I will call the vet monday and just make arrangements to have the donkey done ASAP..... Once the girls were gone, I was going to just have a nap, but didnt actually get that far...I took down my electric fence from the top rail and redid the little back pen so Snickers could have a little running spot of his own. of course it took several attempts of donkey proofing it, but I did manage to getterdun in the end. I didnt put up a gate or anything yet, I just wanted it done so he didnt have to stay confined to the run in. I walked him around it a few times, and left the lead on in case he actually managed to get through the fence, or donkey slipped in.........after about 20 mins of Shaemus getting his ears zapped and the little guy figuring it out I was able to let him just wander back and forth between the barn and the pen.......theres no real grass there, its mostly gravel with some weeds growin through so nothing to hurt him......its just the Idea of freedom...... The boys were able to nuzzle each other through a small area I left unelectrified......and they both stood there being quite friendly.......I was really happy to see Shaemus not acting foolish. so a little while later, I figured it was time the new midget get a chance to wander through the barn and maybe come in the bunkhouse........ this is going to be his begging for cookies face I;m sure he fits right under the TV shelf then he picks out his bed The inspection tour is over........ All in all, a good day, and much happier boys......... The girls have been watching all the goings on......but they are smart enough to stay out of the way | |

| OMG Joan he is just the sweetest little thing!!! He is just progressing in leaps and bounds!!!! So glad things are going well.. And well when you call the vet for Donkey just tell the vet that you will get him to check the little guy and do him if he can find anything. I'm in the same boat, Bubba and Kix have nothing yet.> Sometimes it takes a little while.. Each one is different..

| Good morning Ladies....Tues. Sept. 27..............sorry to report that nothing extreme or exciting actually went on yesterday.....Snickers spent most of his day wondering in and out of the run in and playing with his toys in the little paddock. Shaemus resigned himself to the fact that he can only talk to the little guy through the gate in the barn and has stopped trying to find a breach in my fence line.
They shared a couple of flakes of hay last night, squeezing their heads through the gate bars to occasionally nuzzle one another and that was about it.
I was busy cutting the grass and getting stuff ready for the girls to come friday.
The vet is going to come out Sunday to geld Shaemus......wooo hoo, and his timing is perfect....I will have lots of help if necessary to hold him.
My donkey is back to being his usual comical crazy loveable self....knocking over the wheelbarrow and stealing the laundry off the line.........but the Snickers, well, we will have to wait and see whether he is going to be an active participant in this crazy lifestyle of mine or would rather be like his half brother Haimish and just eat......hahaha

| Good Morning Ladies......Wed,Sept.28.........its been one week since I picked up the Snickers Bar, and I;m pretty sure he has not had this much excitement in his whole little life. Its not like he hasnt been a man of the world however, he was living in a really quite amazing place before coming here. He had a Zebra in the next pen, Alpacas across the lane, Highland Cows up on the left, Emus' on the other side, numerous ducks, chickens wandering around, and I'm pretty sure that Huge pig could be heard up in his paddock, so really, having a dog his size and a crazy long legged big eared donkey should be a walk in the park.
Not really sure what I am rambling on about here, its only 4.30 in the morning and I've only had one cup of coffee so really cant be held responsible for tripe. I think what I am trying to say is.....I got a whole month of crazy, comical goings on to write about from Bringing up Donkey because he is always a brat and getting into trouble.......the Snickers bar is exactly the opposite......he just goes along with anything thats happening, and as I wont be letting him and Shaemus out together for at least another week or two , I'm not sure there will be that much to talk about.
He IS only 6 months old, and I cant really start putting him to work......can I?? I mean, should I put him in the round pen, or actually work on a lunge line? is he too young to be doing that with.......I dont know.....I never had a little fella like this before.
If any of you who are reading this and actually know if I can or what I can do..........LET ME KNOW.....PLEASE.......
Both boys are still sleeping.......maybe I'll just go and rattle their cages.........hahaha

| I'd say little Snix is too young to do any real work, but not too young to learn the basics which you've already started.. ie: tying, leading, obsticles, de-spookafying (tarps) I've got no experience with minis, although I seriously wish I did.... I've always wanted a dog sized horse! I'd cart it around everywhere ;) After watching animal miracles and watching the "seeing eye pony" with the little harness and SNEAKERS ON! I've always wanted to work with one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r86d43KJFkQ&feature=fvstThat way he could get you a beer from the fridge, turn the lights on/off, I would imagine that the donks sillyness will rub off on little Snix and they will give you plenty to talk about!! | |

| Good morning ladies......Thurs.Sept 29........Just jumping in here this morning to let you all know that I wont be posting for a couple of days.....The little guy has been moving from the back paddock to the front of the round pen, tied up to munch a little grass.......I swap Shaemus and him around. for a couple of hours at a time. and basically thats it.,
I have the girls arriving tomorrow, and the vet sunday./.......Fiere's female dog is due to whelp this weekend so she is bringing her along....little Oliver is in a real desperate need of a dematting.... the donkey is going to be de nutted. and Snickers will probably be passed around like a hot potatoe......am sure he is going to get lots of snuggles.....Sam will worm his way in with all the girls. If its not pouring Saturday when we go down to the ocean, i THINK we might take Snickers along for the ride......we\ll see... anyway, I am just busy getting stuff ready for Survivor.
If nothing else, I will be back Sunday night with updates...........wooo hooo.....

| Who even needs to plan any activities what with the animals that you'll have there. A dog who is due to whelp, a donkey who is going to lose his nuts, a baby mini and Sam. Me thinks there is going to be some excitement going on in Hay Cove this weekend! | |

| Good morning ladies. Monday Oct.3......as anticipated the weekend was absolutely crazy.......little Snickers was PHOTOGRAPHED, mauled, pawed, snuggled, dragged, coaxed, driven, led, and pretty much awed and ahhed at the whole time. You guys probably wouldnt be amazed at how well he handled it all.....just like everything else...one hoof at a time. Saturday morning we threw him in the back of the truck with Fiere(MegIvor) and headed off to the beach. It was sort of pouring off and on during the night, you know, our typical Cape Breton type weather, and in the morning, we had fog patches and drizzle, so we werent quite sure how long we would be hanging around at the beach, but we were all going in regardless including Snickers. Sooke was the snickers sitter and videographer for the day | |
