Premature Excitement *update - udder pictures*

We were closely examining one of our Fjord mares today AND her udder is growing!!!!!!!!!!

I know that can happen quite awhile before foaling but still somewhat exciting a mist all this winter weather!!!

We don't really have a "due date" per say - we were told she foaled early February last year in the middle of a snow storm... as far as I can tell the big miserable storm was the beginning of February as per news reports.

I don't think she was bred back on her foal heat as that would put her due in a couple weeks and she doesn't seem that close, I tend to think she was likely bred back on her first regular heat cycle which would put her due mid-February... maybe we'll have a Valentine's baby!!

I'll try to get some pictures of the big Mama... she is QUITE round.

When Kallie's udder started to devlop last year she foaled EXACTLY one month later!! Maybe you'll have a baby sooner then you think :P

LOL MB you're making my giddyness worse or could be the large hot chocolate I just drank.... because she's been working on an udder for a couple weeks now just no major changes like the one we noticed today.

I SO appreciate the girls we bred AI and know the very day they're due... of course they won't foal on that day but I feel so much more "informed"

LOL, it's a sad commentary on our lives when we look at udders for excitement. I did the same yesterday and my maiden has nothing yet, still 9 weeks to go. Foaling season is so exciting, cant wait till the foal watches and pics start coming. :)

Hey - I don't see anything wrong with looking at udders for excitement! I think it sure is one above checking out the boys' equipment to see if they need a cleaning (yuck). I can't wait to see the pictures of all the new additions. I remember last year and how much I looked forward to seeing all the babies! Now lets see the picture of the round lady - you can slip in a picture of her udder too if you want.

D.. I havent' seen a fjord foal up close yet.. I saw them in the field at Beaverdam but they wouldn't come close.. I hope she holds out a bit longer and maybe make the trip to see her.. and put her im my car and bee line for the border.. heheh.. well the bridge anyway.. come on lets see pics of fat pony!!!

I really hate not knowing when a mare is due. You watch like crazy and sit on pins and needles. Does she have any other indicators of impending delivery eg. Usually a couple of weeks prior to delivery the rump area will soften and hollow as well. We have had a couple of mares that have given absolutely no signs before foaling....and we knew the due date!!!! Mother Nature sometimes has a quirky sense of humor. We are all anxiously awaiting more fuzzy Fjord babies!!!

No surprise on what we'll be getting... LOL just not sure of the sex.

The pictures were very interesting. I've never seen the progression of developement like that (other than when I was pregnant!). I'm very excited about these babies. They are so cute as adults, I can't imagine how cute they'll be as babies!

Her udder has filled up a fair bit and she is sensitive to touch now... she has some edema on her belly and given she's been a pretty passive pregnant mare she is now starting to get rather cranky. I'll try to get some pictures...it is pretty dark on her side of the barn... LOL actually it is pretty dark in all of the barn... electrical is still a work in progress!

Can you please tell her that we are trying to be patient but there's only so much waiting we can take?!

Seeing pictures of mares utters always tickles my funny bone.. I just think of what goes through the mind of non-horse folks when the happen upon a pic. Cracks me up!
On a serious note, I am so looking forward to seeing her baby.

I agree. More time. Don't know if I can wait much longer though! I love udder pictures. Sick I know but they always look so soft and snuggly.
