Sam and Shaemus chasing each other along the porch.....so we know for sure he does stairs just fine......But how the Bleeding heart did he get out of the run in?????????? the gate was latched and he was in there this morning........I know Sam can crawl under the gate, but poophead?????? maybe I need to install A Donkey Cam.......he is just too smart.......SMARTASS.......

| oh sure.....leave him out with Sam......to chase logging trucks, mail man, garbage men, and to sniff out my trail after I have gone to town. Cant you see it now, Sam and Shaemuss galloping down my road trying to catch my truck, Well maybe I could just chain both of them up. | |

| The two girls where I board used to escape on a regular basis.. however now they are in electric fencing that has 4 strands. The bottom on is very low so they cannot roll underneath.. We had to stop them from getting out because they were following us on trails, which was annoying and were roaming out on the road... | |

| Sam really looks like he is grinning in the video!!!! Maybe you should have called the little guy Houdini instead. I was telling a friend that you were having a difficult time keeping the donkey in and she said they will literally crawl under a fence if they can...so maybe the fourth row of wire ...at least in one enclosure might do the trick....or you might just have to haul your buttercup around with you were ever you go!!!
PS>>>I am thinking we should bother Simi to see if we can get some donkey smilies..please Simi, please!!!!!!!

| Tuesday July 12.........Good Morning Ladies..........I am pleased to announce that I have successfully been able to contain my too smart Donkey. The gate I had moved back to the outside of the run in was always kept closed with a short black rubber bungy cord......it always kept in or out Abbey and Haimish.......but while working in the barn yesterday I watched Shaemus squeeze himself in behind the gate and move it open enough to get out........so I got Ed's big drill bit wood cutting thing and made a hole in the wall that the gate sliding bar could engage and close up tight with no give. Ed worked on the electric fencer yesterday to boost up the amperage.....gonna get a truck battery today....and see how that goes. I'm going to move the top rail of the small paddock to below the existing bottom rail.....think smaller, shorter, skinnier.
If he starts climbing trees to get over fence I"ll be cutting off his legs not cutting down the trees........
and yes Val, I think we need a DONKEY SMILIE!!!!!!!!!!

| Good morning girls. Wed July 13..........I feel like such a jerk this morning. The was so depressed looking yesterday, and this morning he is either pouting or just pissed off at me. He didnt come when I called him and just sort of stood there giving me the eye. Taking away all his escape routes seems to have removed his sense of humour. I didnt realize he was having as much fun as I was playing this game.,, I know you will all think I am nuts, and that restricting his movements are for his own safety but I do want him to be Happy, and I also was having fun trying to outsmart him. So I am thinking that there has to be a compromise......I am going to give him back one easy exit from the paddock, but only remove the board when I am going to be here all day and re install it in the evening. Having him trotting around and following me here and there was such a joy, I mean, who has that.....Sam follows me everywhere, but Haimish would rather just eat....Shaemus wants to be a best buddy.....next he will be catching frisbees and fetching the ball........ I am opting for a minimum security facility for him.....I mean, if Martha Stewart and Conrad Black can have this sort of set up, then Shaemus is definately entitiled........those two never made me laugh | |

| lol....what a softie you are!!!! I have heard that humans train dogs but cats train humans...me thinks the same is holding true for little white and butterscotch colored donkeys!!! I have to agree....letting him roam while you are there, sounds like a plan. Maybe you should start him on obstacle training...it would be nice to have him jumping through hoops and such...so you can entertain Dexy when she come to visit the circus!!!!! Thanks for the smilies, Simi!!!!!! | |
